Rottneros' targets
for a sustainable future

Sustainable value creation lies behind the Gooup's
entire operation - from raw materials and production,
to our renewable products, all of which contribute
to amore climate-friendly society. We present here
our environmental- and social targets.

The foundation of our sustainability work
Rottneros supports the Swedish government’s decision on a national strategy for the circular economy, with the goal for Sweden to become the world’s first fossil-free welfare state. The EU taxonomy is also an important basis in our sustainability work. Rottneros’ sustainability goals and strategic decisions have been formulated based on our stakeholders’ most important requirements and needs.
The goal is an annual reduction of emissions, GHG Scope 1 & 2, towards achieving entirely fossil-free production by 2030. In 2024, GHG Scope 1 amounted to 9,637 tons per year (carbon dioxide emissions from fossil fuels), while GHG Scope 2 was 110,448 tons per year (emissions from purchased electricity and energy).
We will annually reduce emissions of oxygen-consuming substances into water by a significant margin in relation to established conditions, measured in COD/tonnes of pulp. In 2024, emissions were reduced to 14.3 kg/ton of pulp, compared to 14.9 kg/ton in 2023.
The ambition is for 100 percent of the forest raw material to be certified according to FSC® or PEFC. In 2023, the outcome was 73 (68) percent. The availability of certified wood raw material is insufficient to achieve this ambition. However, the purchased raw material that is not certified meets the requirements of FSC® Controlled Wood.
The target is 30% female employees in 2025. The figure for 2023, the proportion of female employees was 18% remaining at the same level as in previous year. We have succeeded in recruiting more female employees but staff turnover is higher. This means that we are going to focus on the organisational and social work environment and ensure that it is so good that all our employees want to stay with us.
Rottneros has a zero-accident vision for workplace injuries resulting in sick leave. The goal is for the LTIFR to decrease each year. The number of accidents with sick leave decreased from 5 to 3 during the year, reducing the LTIFR to 6.3 compared to 10.2 the previous year. LTIFR represents the number of accidents with sick leave per million hours worked.
