Demarcation boundary restoration

Well-marked boundaries make it easier to work in the forest

Demarcation boundary restoration is an important maintenance task for landowners who want clear and well-marked boundaries, both to protect their interests and to facilitate property management. At the same time, it ensures that the boundaries are consistent with the official property maps.

Many demarcation boundaries are difficult to find

The vast majority of demarcation boundaries were made in the 19th century and were marked with rough stones, stone walls, ditches and pastures. Later, iron pipes or wooden poles became common. Today, many of them have been forgotten and can be difficult to find, but it is still the old markings that are legally binding.

Benefits of demarcation restoration

There are many benefits from restoring the demarcation boundaries on your land, here are some of them:

  • It is important to know exactly where the boundary is so that the right forest is felled, thinned or cleared.
  • This reduces the risk of boundary disputes with neighbours. Something that can otherwise be both costly and time-consuming.
  • A well-maintained demarcation boundary facilitates the sale or transfer of the property, as it shows that the boundaries are properly maintained.

Here's what happens when you hire us

To know exactly where the demarcation boundaries should run, we need to check the property boundaries on cadastral maps. We then remove trees, bushes and other vegetation that may have sprouted up along the boundary line, so that it becomes visible. When the new and clear boundary markers are put up, we carefully check that they are correctly positioned. Last but not least, we document the work, which is particularly important if the restoration is done in consultation with neighbouring properties.

We're constantly working on the restoration of old demarcation boundaries and dare say we're really good at it. Do you need to review your boundary markings?
